Is A.V.A.T.A.R. robotic surgery?

No. It is intriguing to imagine replacing human joints using artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and robotics, and that future may come. However, the latest published evidence suggests that the robotic-arm systems used in joint replacement over the past 15 years have produced more drawbacks than benefits. They are not what many patients have been led to believe. A.V.A.T.A.R. relies on surgeon expertise, precise implant placement and a planned recovery program rather than a robotic arm.

What is A.V.A.T.A.R. with Conformis Knee?

Conformis offers the only fully customized knee replacement implant available in the United States. Each implant is tailor-made to replicate a patient's individual anatomy, so every implant is unique.

What is the difference between total and partial joint replacement?

We offer total knee systems that are best suited to each arthritic knee. The Conformis and Attune systems help optimize the surgical outcome, and our focus is on giving patients a knee replacement that lasts 25 to 30 years with no pain. Partial knee replacement is only helpful for the minority of patients whose arthritis is localized to a small area of the knee surface; the rest of the knee has to be undamaged, or the likelihood of early failure is high.

Knee arthroscopy is a surgical procedure that allows doctors to view the knee joint without making a large incision through the skin and other soft tissues. Arthroscopy is used to diagnose and treat a wide range of knee problems.

What about stem cells or PRP for knee arthritis?

Unfortunately, despite years of trials, there is no evidence that PRP or stem cells do anything beneficial for joint arthritis. They are expensive and ineffective. Buyer beware.
